Law Enforcement and Private Security

Central Texas Law Enforcement Agencies and the Central Texas Private Security Industry are involved in building a cooperative effort to promote the concept of crime prevention and to encourage joint cooperation between the law enforcement community and all sectors of private security.

By utilizing the additional eyes and ears of the private security industry, the citizens of Central Texas are afforded the opportunity to benefit from an additional 10-15,000 trained security personnel who are working to reduce criminal activity and misconduct in thier communities.

Since its inception in 1984, LEAPS has grown statewide and has expanded throughout the United States. LEAPS is gaining recognition globally and offers support for any group seeking to establish a LEAPS program locally.
Domestic and International Considerations

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 have dictated a strong commitment from all levels of law enforcement in the war on terrorism. Members of the private security industry protect critical infrastructures vital to our country. Now more then ever, it is imperative for law enforcement and all sectors of the private security industry to network our efforts to protect our domestic and international interests. LEAPS recognizes these new challenges and will continue to foster a strong working relationship between law enforcement agencies and the private security industry in order to protect our country’s interest and our citizens’ safety.

Goals

The goals of this program include creating an atmosphere of mutual understanding, cooperation, and coordination among members of the Police Department and the private security sector.

Successful actions taken by the private security sector can prevent and reduce crime in our residential and business communities. By correctly handling field incidents, security officers could have a significant impact on reducing calls for Police assistance.
